Meeting with the President of the International Olympic Committee

On 1 June 2015, at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne a meeting was held between Dr Thomas Bach, head of the international Olympic movement and the organizers of the tenth edition of The World Games, represented by Rafał Dutkiewicz, Mayor of Wrocław.

The meeting was also attended by Jose Perurena, President of the International World Games Association (IWGA), Dorota Idzi, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, and Andrzej Kraśnicki, President of the Polish Olympic Committee.

The Polish delegation in Lausanne presented the state of the Wrocław city preparations for the holding of The World Games in 2017.

The games in Wrocław are considered to be of key importance not only in the context of IWGA events but also of the Summer Olympic Games.

- Sport is one for all; thus, we are very interested in the development of The World Games and non-Olympic sports. The newly established TV channel, named the Olympic Channel, will promote the disciplines included in the Wrocław games. We are of the opinion that The World Games indicate the direction for the global sport, emphasized Dr Bach, IOC President who, since taking his office, has been committed to close cooperation with the IWGA.

Dorota Idzi, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism confirmed that the Ministry will support the organization of the main sporting event to be held in Poland in 2017, inter alia by co-funding the construction and modernization of the sports infrastructure in Lower Silesia and the programme of athletes’ preparations for The World Games 2017 Wrocław.

- However, what is most important for us is that after the games, the residents of Wrocław will be able to use the sports facilities as publicly accessible places of safe recreation for whole families, added Dorota Idzi.
