Minister Witold Bańka took part in the event

On 13-14 March 2019 in Lausanne (Switzerland), the Annual Symposium of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was held. The event was attended by Minister of Sport and Tourism Witold Bańka.

The annual anti-doping symposium is one of WADA’s main events in which current issues relating to the fight against doping in sport are presented and discussed. This year’s edition focused on discussing the works carried out with regard to the amendment of the World Anti-Doping Code and the international standards, and on the presentation of challenges faced by the Agency in 2019.

Extensive discussions were also conducted on the new international standards, including the ones concerning education and results management. The event was an opportunity for all stakeholders in the fight for clean sport to meet and discuss matters of interest for them.

The symposium also included a session during which Minister Witold Bańka invited those interested to take part in the World Conference on Doping in Sport to be held in Katowice on 5-7 November this year.

The World Conference on Doping in Sport is a periodic event. It aims to gather representatives of all communities and entities engaged in the fight against doping in sport, including National Anti-Doping Organizations, international sports federations, public administration bodies as well as athletes, researchers and journalists. The previous editions of the conference took place in 1999 in Lausanne, in 2003 in Copenhagen, in 2007 in Madrid and in 2013 in Johannesburg. The upcoming conference will discuss issues of fundamental importance for the effectiveness of the global anti-doping system. In the event, new members of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Foundation Board will be elected and amendments to the World Anti-Doping Code will be approved.
