Michel Platini visits Warsaw
UEFA President Michel Platini paid a short visit to Warsaw on October 14th 2010. The main point in the agenda of the visit of the head of European football in Poland was a meeting with the President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski.
“The President of Poland should be, and is, involved in the promotion of our country. Euro 2012 is a perfect opportunity to show the world Poland’s achievements on the road to modernity. Without doubt, Euro 2012 is also a great opportunity to increase the pace of modernization of our country and to achieve European standards in many areas” said the President of the Republic of Poland.
Michel Platini and President Komorowski boarded a helicopter to get an aerial view of Warsaw and its surroundings. The UEFA President saw, among others, the National Stadium under construction, the Warsaw Central and Warsaw Eastern railway stations, the training centre in Legionowo, the hotel facilities in Jachranka, the Okęcie airport and the Marsa road interchange.
After the meeting with the President of the Republic of Poland, the UEFA delegation went to the National Stadium, where Michel Platini, accompanied by Minister of Sport and Tourism Adam Giersz, inspected the construction of the venue for the opening match of EURO 2012, scheduled for June 8th 2012.
