Polish Presidency patronages - promotion of the Presidency through sport
On December 10th 2010, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Sport and Tourism concluded a cooperation agreement concerning the promotion of the Polish Presidency through sport. The agreement was signed on behalf of the ministers by Mikołaj Dowgielewicz, Government Plenipotentiary for the Preparation of the Government Administration for the Polish Presidency in the EU Council, and by Katarzyna Sobierajska, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. The objective of cooperation between the ministries is to utilize the educational, information and promotional potential of sport for the dissemination of knowledge about Poland’s membership in the EU, especially in the context of the Polish Presidency in the EU, for mobilizing Poles around the Presidency, and for strengthening the debate on European issues in Poland.
This objective will be achieved by taking advantage of the great public interest in sports events and awarding some of these events the patronage of the 2011 Polish EU Council Presidency. The agreement specifies the conditions for the award of such patronage. The sports events will be selected from among those which have received state budget grants for the promotion of physical culture 2011,or have been awarded honorary patronage of the Minister of Sport and Culture in 2011, or have a representative of the Minister of Sport and Tourism in their honorary committee.
Detailed information for sports event organizers about the possibility of receiving support in the form of patronage of the 2011 Polish Presidency of the EU Council, including eligibility criteria, is available on the website of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.
Sports event organizers who are not eligible for Presidency patronage in the light of the specific criteria identified in the agreement between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Sport and Tourism, may apply for it on the basis of the general rules set in Decision No 4, dated 14 December 2009, of the Government Plenipotentiary for the Preparation of the Government Administration for the Polish Presidency in the EU Council, concerning the principles of awarding the patronage of 2011 Polish Presidency of the EU Council and the patronage application form.
