On 1 March 2011 in Warsaw the sale of tickets for the 2012 European Football Championship, to be held in Poland and Ukraine, was officially launched. The ceremony was attended by UEFA president Michel Platini, Sport and Tourism Minister Adam Giersz, Polish FA chairman Grzegorz Lato, and Euro2012 ambassadors Andrzej Szarmach and Zbigniew Boniek, former outstanding football players.

During the ceremony that took place at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw Michael Platini handed over the tickets to Paweł Michalczak of the town of Tarczyn, the first winner of the UEFA promotional lottery.

The tickets can be bought by submitting an application via the uefa.com website and taking part in the draw. The applications will be registered until 31 March 2011; the application submission time does not matter. One person may apply for no more than four tickets for one match per day.

The ticket prices range from 30 to 600 euros, depending on the type of match and on seat category. The cheapest seats are third-category seats located at low-level terraces behind the goals. Second-category seats, slightly more expensive, are located at higher-level terraces behind the goals. First-category seats are those located at the side stands. The highest price, 600 euros, is for first-category seats for the final match in Kiev.

Out of the overall number of about 1.4 million tickets, 41 percent will be sold directly to fans via ticket draw. The remaining tickets will be allocated to national federations (32 percent), sponsors, UEFA guests and business package buyers.

After the April’s draw, some tickets will still be on sale. This applies to the 32 percent of the tickets allocated to national football federations. Some of the tickets allocated to the Polish Football Association will be sold via the Internet, but the details of this operation are going to be known later.

The UEFA EURO 2012TM draw for the group stage will be held on 2 December 2011 in Kiev. The tournament will be held in the period 12 June – 1 July 2012.
