On May 15th, Minister of Sport and Tourism Adam Giersz took part in the meeting of the Foundation Board of the World Anti-Doping Agency in Montreal. As a minister of the country to hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2011, he will be representing Europe for 18 months at the world’s most important anti-doping organization.

WADA coordinates the World Anti-Doping Programme, sets doping control standards, edits the list of prohibited substances and methods and is responsible for the accreditation of anti-doping laboratories.

The meeting of the WADA Foundation Board, one of the Agency’s two statutory bodies, was devoted to developing a calendar for the revision of the Anti-Doping Code, budget issues, and the athlete’s biological passport programme and the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS). WADA’s strategic plan for 2011-2016 was also adopted at the meeting.

In addition to attending the meeting of the WADA Foundation Board, Minister Giersz also took part in a European continental coordination meeting organized by the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and in a meeting with members of the Foundation Board representing governments from other continents.
