„Orlik Volleymania” is started!
The organiser of the “Orlik Volleymania” tournament is the Ministry of Sport and Tourism; its main partner is the Polish Volleyball Federation and the media partners are: Polskie Radio Channel 1, TVP Sport, Gazeta Wyborcza daily and sport.pl.
The project’s sports patron is Mr Piotr Gruszka, many-time national representative of Poland, European champion and world vice-champion, record holder of the largest number of matches played in the national team, and MVP in the last European Championships.
The “Orlik Volleymania” tournament will be held in the period 1.09 – 9.10.2011 in two age categories, separately for boys and for girls: 12-13 (kids born in 1998-1999) and 14-15 (kids born in 1996-1997). The competition is open to teams representing schools, school classes, school students’ clubs as well as teams formed by local communities and organisations working with children and youth. Each 8-player volleyball team is welcome by the tournament’s organisers.
The matches will be played on 32 “Orlik Fields” in four Voivodships (provinces): mazowieckie, łódzkie, wielkopolskie and pomorskie.
The tournament will start with qualifying matches on the municipal level and will continue through Voivodship-level finals (in four Voivodships). The best teams will qualify to the great finals to be held on 8 and 9 October in Gdańsk.
The idea behind the project is to promote sports activity and fair-play principles among children and youth, to activate local communities and to encourage them to jointly organise various sporting activities at sports fields built under the programme “My Sports Field – ORLIK 2012”.
