Informal Meeting of EU Sport Ministers
On 13-14 October 2011 in Kraków the Polish Presidency’s most important event in the field of sport, the Informal Meeting of EU Ministers Responsible for Sport, was held. The meeting was also attended by representatives of EU institutions (the European Parliament, the Commission and the General Secretariat of the Council) and international sports organisations, including the President of UEFA.
The purpose of the meeting was to initiate a pan-European discussion and cooperation on combating match-fixing related both to betting and to sports reasons. During the talks, the results were also presented, in the European context, of a sport satellite account compiled for Poland (i.e. an assessment of the sports sector’s impact on the national economy) and of a similar analysis made for the final tournament of the European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012™. Furthermore, the meeting included a presentation to the European sports community of the Polish Government Programme “My Sports Field – Orlik 2012” as an instrument of active social inclusion through sport.
As part of the Informal Meeting of EU Sport Ministers, a meeting at the Cracovia football club stadium was held, where a presentation by the host cities of the UEFA EURO 2012™ final tournament was given and the sports programme of Kraków was presented.
