Debate on the activity of the elderly
The conference was organised jointly by the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy as part of the celebrations of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 in Poland.
The demographic change in Poland, as in most other European Union States requires the state policies to adopt a special approach to population ageing.
The initiative of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 (Decision No 940/2011/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 September 2011) is the more valuable and justified since we are starting to take up joint discussion on the EU and the national levels about building the right model of active ageing. As part of these actions it is, undoubtedly, important to emphasise the role of dialogue and cooperation between the young and the elderly, which forms the foundations of solidarity between generations.
The debate in the Presidential Palace was devoted, above all, to the issues related to the promotion of active ageing culture, and development of a framework for innovative solutions supporting their activity. The meeting with the participation of the representatives of the European Commission, ministries and different-level authorities, practitioners and academic circles contributed to the discussion about the need for integrated approach to the problem of professional and social activity of the elderly. In the future it will make it possible to prepare proposals of solutions for problems that have to be faced by Poland in this area both in the social and economic dimensions.
