Cracow submitted!
On the 7th of November 2013, at a press conference in the capital Olympic Centre of the Polish Olympic Committee, it was officially announced that on the very same day the Polish Olympic Committee will send an application form to the IOC’s head office in Lausanne, formulated by the City of Cracow, indicating its joining the competition for the honour of the host of the 24th Olympic Winter Games and the 13th Paralympic Winter Games in 2022.
The news was delivered to reporters by Andrzej Kraśnicki, the President of the Polish Olympic Committee, who was accompanied by his Slovakian counterpart - František Chmelar (according to the Olympic project’s objectives, the alpine part of the competition would take place in the area of Jasna, on the Slovakian side of the Tatra Mountains).
- This day crowns a year of efforts on the part of the Polish and Slovakian governments. At the same time, this day marks the beginning of the hardest work, but I believe it will end in Cracow, Polish and Slovakian Tatra Mountains being the hosts of the Winter Olympics in 2022 – said Joanna Mucha, the Minister of Sport and Tourism.
- This will not be Cracovian games. They will take place in the Małopolskie Voivodeship and in Slovakia. Once Cracow and Poprad applied for the chance to organise the Olympic Games. Unsuccessfully. That is why this time they joined forces. And it will be a good start for Cracow, because of the great commitment of the Polish and Slovakian governments – said professor Jacek Majchrowski, the President of Cracow.
The chairman of the Competition Committee Cracow 2022 – the Member of Parliament Jagna Marczułajtis – Walczak concluded: - Our serious work begins now. Keep your fingers crossed.
