Minister Andrzej Biernat presented with the award for the campaign "Stop absenteeism from physical education classes"
On Tuesday, April 21 at the Marriott Hotel in Warsaw, Sport and Tourism Minister Andrzej Biernat was handed the award for the Leader in Pro-Health Activities 2015 for the campaign "Stop absenteeism from physical education classes". The award was granted by the Pro-Health Activities Competition Jury composed of renowned professors and doctors of medicine.
- The award is a confirmation that our decision to launch the action in September 2013 was correct, said Minister Andrzej Biernat. The campaign "Stop absenteeism from physical education classes" is carried out at an increasing number of schools. This is a source of satisfaction for us, but also a commitment to further hard work.
According to the alarming data, at the beginning of the 21st century Polish children and adolescents were getting overweight at the fastest pace in Europe, had more postural defects, and their physical activity decreased steadily. One of the reasons was the unwillingness to take part in physical education classes, particularly at secondary schools. Thanks to the campaign "Stop absenteeism from physical education classes" the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, supported by top Polish athletes, has been reversing this trend and activating more and more children and teachers at schools across the country.
