Polish chess players will compete for medals during the European Team Chess Championship
The European Team Chess Championship is approaching quickly. In a few days, on 8 November, a tournament will commence that will attract the chess stars from across Europe to Warsaw.
For the first time since 1935, 78 years ago, when Poland hosted the Chess Olympics, we organise such an exceptional event on the European and global scale. We will do our utmost to assure that the Championship are held at the highest standards and go down to history as one of the most spectacular ones – said Tomasz Delega, the President of the Polish Chess Association. We have prepared an online broadcast of all the matches played during the Championship in the internet for the fans. Thanks to that, it will be possible to follow the course of games on a current basis.
The Championship will be held on 8-17 November in the heart of Warsaw, in the Novotel hotel in the centre of Warsaw. 70 teams from 36 national federations confirmed the participation in the competition. Poland will be represented by top players, who will compete for the highest positions in several teams, including the men’s team and the women’s team, as well as in two Olympic Hopefuls’ teams. The games of the Polish national women’s team, which will defend the title of vice-champions of the 2011 European Team Chess Championship, will surely bring a lot of sport emotions.
The 2013 European Team Chess Championship will last two weeks, during which the fans will have an opportunity to meet and admire the performance of world’s chess stars, e.g. such grand masters as:
Lewon Aronian from Armenia (No. 2 in the FIDE World Chess Federation rating), Alexander Grishchuk from Russia (No. 5 in the FIDE rating), Fabiano Caruana from Italy (No. 6 in the FIDE rating) and female grand masters: Judit Polgar from Hungary, the best grand master in the history of chess, Alexandra Kosteniuk from Russia, the 2008 World Champion, Antoaneta Stefanova from Bulgaria, World Champion in 2004-2006 and Anna Ushenina from Ukraine, the 2012 World Champion. The Polish national dress will be worn by titled players of the Polish chess elite. The following grand masters will take part in the Championship in the Open category: Bartosz Soćko, Mateusz Bartel, Grzegorz Gajewski, Dariusz Świercz, Kamil Mitoń, and the following female grand masters: Monika Soćko, Iweta Rajlich, Jolanta Zawadzka, Joanna Majdan-Gajewska and Karina Szczepkowska-Horowska.
